Blind Harry fics. These are fantastic. Non-slash, and Harry is not super powered or anything. They could have been written by Rowling herself! Basically, Harry is blinded, and this is how he copes, adapts, and works out how to defeat Voldemort, realising along the way that you don't need eyes to see, you need vision...

Harry makes friends with a muggle family, and, in gratitude, transfers the cancer plaguing a family member onto himself. This is easily the best and most realistic ending battle I have ever read. If Rowling was a whumping fan, this is how she would end it. Warning - child abuse. There is a great sequel, too. The summary from the author is:

HP/SS SLASH. This was so sweet it made me cry. Harry gets cancer, and later on, so does Snape. This really increased my understanding of homosexuality, and how you fall in love with a person, not a gender. Recommended even if you don't normally read slash!
